Pride, once known as Gay Pride March, celebrated same sex attraction and called for homosexuals to have the same rights as our heterosexual colleagues. Today many Pride events are publicly banning the participation of LGB people and organisations which support the rights of Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals who declare that they are same-sex attracted. We are not attracted to a certificate and we are not sexual racists.
Labour LGB formed in February 2025 to, once again, fight for the rights of homosexual people and uphold the Supreme Court Judgment which clarified that sex in the Equality Act refers only to biological sex. This ruling cemented in law, the rights of LGB people to be same-sex attracted, rights which have been seriously eroded by the conflation of sex and gender.
It is extremely concerning that so many politicians, Government departments,Trade Unions and organisations are actively rebelling against this ruling as they are in effect denying LGB people the right to be only attracted to a person of the same sex. These ‘well-meaning’ people are lobbying against the rights of LGB people, which, if they succeed, will erase our right to define who we are, to exclude the opposite sex from our events, our dating sites and our community. Our protected characteristic of ‘sex’, and therefore sexuality, would cease to exist.
Our aim is to represent LGB people and our specific needs and rights within the Labour Party and to lobby our Labour Government to protect those rights, with specific concern for LGB youth who have a human right to mature through puberty to adulthood without being medicalised and irreversibly harmed by gender ideology and its associated surgeries and drugs.
We urge that you take this opportunity to reflect on Pride, what it was and what it has become. Who it welcomes and who it excludes. What have we gained … and what have we lost … and what we all must do to secure the rights we have all fought so hard to obtain for future generations, including the right of LGB organisations to participate fully in all Pride events.
