Athena Forum is a European think tank and strategic hub working to safeguard and advance sex-based rights across law, policy and civil society — and confront their misrepresentation in public discourse. Athena Forum was formed just last year by ex Green Austrian MP and lesbian activist Faika El-Nagashi.
It was Athena that put out the call to action to stand in the way of the UK transactivist lobby, led by Labour MP Kate Osborne, coercing the Council of Europe to resolve to ban conversion practices against LGBTQ+ people. Sadly, due to apathy, indifference, misunderstanding and fear, the poorly attended meeting overwhelmingly passed the resolution.
This is a really bad news for vulnerable and distressed gender non-conforming and gender-questioning children and adolescents and their families, who may now find that talking therapies and counselling are covered by this ban.
