Dear Secretary of State
We are writing to you as Labour Party members who are part of Labour LGB. We campaign for the rights of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals. We oppose the way our rights have been obscured, infringed, even denied under the influence of a pernicious ideology which promotes the bundling of the LGB fight, that you know well, with other causes not related to sexual orientation (“TQIA+”). This is happening not merely in the Labour Party (and LGBT+Labour is now completely unrepresentative, fully dedicated to trans activism) but in society as a whole, and the NHS in particular.
We are grateful for the actions you have taken to protect children from gender ideology and the way the Government has welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling on the For Women Scotland case. We have condemned the attack on your constituency office and are concerned at the increasing radicalisation of those young people who believe in gender identity ideology.
Sadly, for years under the previous Conservative/Lib Dem Coalition and Conservative Governments, a wrong interpretation of the law, with regard to the meaning of ‘sex ’and ‘sexual orientation’, has been promoted by external lobbies such as Stonewall. This has been taken up by well-meaning but misinformed and badly-monitored structures to promote Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, which will be a brake on real progress for LGB people until they are reformed and redirected.
In the NHS, it is particularly concerning that same-sex attracted people are forcibly bundled in a LGBT+ Health sector under a National Advisor on LGBT+ Health (Dr Michael Brady), an Equality and Diversity Council (currently under review) and an unrepresentative NHS LGBT+ Sounding Board.
We understand that the “LGBT+ Health Inequalities Review” you commissioned in April 2025 couldn’t anticipate the decisive tune change impulsed by the Supreme Court. We are however disappointed that the detailed programme of the review, published by NHS England on 29 July 2025, puts Dr Brady in charge, despite him being wedded to gender identity ideology. We would like organisations that only include LGB people to be properly consulted during this review. We hope that, in the near future, the NHS will give LGB people a focus as same-sex attracted people, whose needs are quite distinct from those of people who subscribe to TQIA+ identities.
