Today the BBC continued with their campaign of deliberate public misinformation.
We at LabourLGB and Lesbian Labour know the truth of what happened to lesbians and gays in 1960-1970’s. We personally know many who were subjected to this cruel and degrading medical treatment which was supposed to ‘cure’ homosexuality, as if we were sick to begin with. In fact homosexuality has a long history of medical intervention including chemical castration in the 40’s and 50’s, the most famous gay man being Alan Turing.
Yet once again the BBC has headlined this as something which was done to LGBT people… we strongly object to the inaccurate inclusion of T, in this article. This was gay conversion therapy which was an attempt to cure homosexuality. It has nothing to do with heterosexuals who wanted to present as the opposite sex.
By including transgender in gay oppression, our history is erased. It is insulting, inaccurate and a deliberate attempt to manipulate facts to create a false history. We believe that once again the BBC has set out to implant in the public mind that transgender existed alongside homosexuality and faced the same oppression and horrors which lesbians and gays experienced. We totally reject this claim.
In fact we wonder why the BBC has not drawn parallels with the conversion of LGB back in the 1960’s to the proposed Puberty Blocker Trials of the 21st century. Again the majority of children and young people who will receive Puberty Blockers in this unethical Trial will be LGB, i.e. same-sex attracted. This is why they do not conform to rigid sex-stereotypes. The great majority according to Cass, when she studied the Tavistock GIDS, were LGB. Giving Puberty Blockers to children is a repeat by the state to ‘cure’ homosexuality. We note that LGB young people are 147 times more likely to be put on this trial and affirmed as being born in the wrong body than their heterosexual counterparts. Similar medical and surgical ‘corrective’ conversion practices are carried out on homosexuals in Iran and Pakistan where healthy bodies have their birth sex characteristics removed.
It is time the BBC separated LGB from TQ+ and reported these 2 groups as the distinctly separate issues which they are. Our histories, our oppression and our issues are completely different. Stop rewriting history and report on the current NHS medical scandal about to take place on healthy children as young as 10yrs.
The Puberty Blocker Trial must be stopped as it is unashamedly 21st century state- sponsored gay conversion practice.
